A walk, a day at the beach, an afternoon in the garden: sun protection starts before you step outside. Here is a simple sequence to keep in mind.
01 · Plan for shade too
A hat, protective clothing, sunglasses and shade breaks belong in your routine. Sunscreen should not be used to extend your time in the sun. The NHS guide.
02 · Check two indications
Look for at least SPF 30 and UVA protection. SPF describes UVB protection; a circled UVA symbol helps identify UVA protection that meets the European standard. Reading the label.
03 · Take sunscreen with you
Apply before going out to all uncovered skin, including ears and neck. Outdoors, reapply every two hours and immediately after swimming or sweating. Follow the pack instructions too. Advice from AAD dermatologists.
04 · Give each step its place
After-sun lotion offers cosmetic moisturising care after exposure. When choosing yours, compare the INCI list, fragrance content and directions. The Desylab after-sun lotion page brings these details together for its 250 ml format. It does not replace UV protection.
