Autumn: four steps for your everyday routine

As schedules and days change, it can help to rethink how you organise your time. Start with a few habits that genuinely fit into your week.

01 ยท Make room for movement

Walking, cycling and moving during everyday journeys count as physical activity. WHO notes that all movement counts and some activity is better than none. The WHO reference.

Choose a specific opportunity: a short walk, a break from your desk or meeting in the park. Adapt the activity to your abilities.

02 ยท Plan a varied table

Before shopping, think of two or three meals that fit your schedule. A bean soup, vegetables prepared ahead, fruit to take with you: small elements can make a menu easier to organise.

03 ยท Leave breathing room in the day

Look at your calendar and choose a break you can keep. Prepare what you need for the morning the night before; try one change at a time and note what works for you. A useful routine needs to fit busy weeks too.

04 ยท Do not put everything down to the season

Tiredness has many possible causes. If it lasts for weeks without an explanation, affects everyday life or comes with other symptoms, speak to your doctor. When to investigate, according to NHS.
